Link to Peer Reviewed Paper: Involuntary Youth Transport (IYT) to Treatment Programs: Best Practices, Research, Ethics, and Future Directions
“This article examines the risks and benefits of Involuntary Youth Transport to Treatment or Therapeutic Boarding Schools and similar programs. Especially the longterm effects on the client, in order to ensure that all facets of a client’s treatment are trauma-informed and guided by research-based practices and ethical principles. Practices that re-traumatize youth need to be replaced with informed practices that facilitate positive outcomes. This article utilizes an ethical decision-making framework developed for behavioral health professionals to assess and improve the ethical use of IYT. Based on this ethical framework, a more effective and collaborative model is presented that results in less restrictive approaches, greater levels of willingness by the adolescent to enter treatment, and trauma-informed management of difficult emotional or physical behaviors. This model also guides professionals and caregivers on how to proceed when IYT services are deemed necessary. The article presents past research and addresses ethical guidelines and best practices for IYT. Steps for practitioners and future directions are discussed.”

AI-Integrated Medication Adherence Solutions in Adolescent Behavioral Health Medication non-adherence affects roughly half of all patients with chronic conditions, costing healthcare systems over $100 billion annually. The problem is even more severe in mental health, where 65% of patients with severe mental illness fail to follow prescribed regimens. Adolescents face particularly high non-adherence rates, ranging from 10-89% depending on the condition, leading to worsened outcomes and increased hospitalizations. This crisis demands innovative solutions that address the unique developmental and psychosocial challenges facing young patients. AI-integrated medication adherence systems represent a promising approach to bridge these gaps and improve health outcomes in adolescent behavioral health.

Families searching for the right path forward for a struggling teen often find the landscape confusing, competitive, and difficult to navigate alone — which is precisely the gap Sue Scheff has spent more than two decades filling. A nationally recognized parent advocate and author, Scheff founded Parents' Universal Resource Experts (P.U.R.E.™) in 2001 after her own experience navigating the teen-help industry as a parent, and has since guided over 100,000 families through the process of finding safe, reputable residential programs and treatment resources for at-risk pre-teens, teenagers, and young adults. Through her organization and its resource hub, HelpYourTeens.com, Scheff and her team of family consultants offer parents objective guidance, firsthand experience, and a trusted voice at the moment they need it most — the point many families describe as their wit's end. Interactive Youth Transport is proud to be among the transport providers listed in the HelpYourTeens directory and to share Scheff's commitment to protecting families from the industry's pitfalls while connecting them with care that actually fits their child.
